“Believe in yourself and in the power you have to control your own day to day.
Believe in the strength you have deep inside you and let faith show you the way.
Believe in tomorrow and what it may bring.
Let a hopeful heart carry you through, for things will work if you trust and believe there is no limit to what you can do.
The only one that holds you back, is you.” – Jim Maez
We each have the POWER to BELIEVE anything we want. We can choose to believe in Santa Claus, love, failure, good health, luck, faith… ourselves.
Why is it such a challenge to believe in ourselves and in our abilities to be the best person we can be? It breaks my heart all the time to see people with so much potential and amazing talent… yet they don’t see that in themselves and their lives are a little less bright or a little less full of love and joy.
Our beliefs are SO powerful that they can start a war, or end one. They can grow an abundance of love, or break love. They can get a child to do unimaginable things to grow and stretch themselves, or cause a child to doubt themselves forever.
Whatever you CHOOSE to believe sets the stage for not only your life, but the lives of others around you.
What will you do with your power? Today I’d like to encourage you to take out a piece of paper and draw a line right down the center to make two columns. At the top of the left column write Positive Beliefs and at the top of the right column write Less Positive Beliefs.
Start with the left column and for the next 3-5 minutes, write down everything you love about your life – everything you are happy about – the qualities you like in yourself – anything that lifts you up.
When you run out of ideas, switch to the right column. In that column, I’d like you to write down everything in your life that is bugging you – things that present a challenge or unhappiness in your life – the things that cause you to lay in bed at night and feel torment – anything that you don’t understand in life or that doesn’t seem fair. When you are done, take a good, hard look at what you’ve listed in that column.
Did you notice your mood or attitude change? Maybe your shoulders started to sulk, or your body became more tense. This is stress; this is the effect of beliefs that do not serve you. YOU have the power to control your day to day. Believe in the strength you have deep inside you. Choose wisely.
I now challenge you to BE AWARE of your beliefs – both good and bad. Really study your beliefs and ASK yourself WHY you have chosen to believe this. Nothing is final. Keep growing and stretching yourself – remove doubt from the equation. SHARE this with your friends and family… they will thank you for the reminder.
