This “gift” I am referring to is not an item you bought from a major department store, a strip mall store, online, or through a catalog. You didn’t need to worry about the proper sizing, material content, durability, shipping cost, or method of delivery. It was not made in China, Japan, or America. Furthermore, it did not come wrapped in pretty paper and was not given by your parent, sibling, uncle, auntie, or cousin.
This gift existed before you were born. You are the gift.“I knew you before you were formed within your mother’s womb; before you were born I sanctified you and appointed you as my spokesperson to the world.” (Jeremiah 1:5) Jeremiah had the gift but in his response, “I can’t do that! I’m far too young! I’m only a youth!” (verse 6), the gift was clearly undercover.
During my childhood, I literally hated being the tallest girl in my eighth grade class. I out grew all of my dresses during the summer between the seventh and eighth grade. My growth spurt was so obvious that I had to get all new dresses. During that time, mini dresses and skirts did not exist and slacks were not an acceptable attire for girls to wear to school. Height wise, I out grew all the boys in my class, and I always ended up at the back of the line when we lined up by height.
Even though I was a very shy and quiet person, calling me “the girl with the cat eyes” were fighting words to me. I resented being different from everyone else.
I wanted to hide my unique gifts (my height and the color of my eyes), because I did not want to stand out from the crowd. I wanted to blend in with everyone.
As I have matured in life, I have come to appreciate the Miracle of my creation, gifts and all. I have learned to accept me, which has led to a much joyful and more successful life.
Do you have gifts you need to uncover? Gifts that appear to make you feel different? As you start to honor your uniqueness, as I have learned, you honor your creator. Think about it … there is none other in the entire universe that is identical to you. You are uniquely made and you are worthy just being “you”.
Be the Miracle EveryDay!
